You see, he died because health insurers refused to pay for the care he needed: had they paid for it, they wouldn’t have made as much profit. He died so that millionaires can get even richer, and that’s the ONLY God-damned reason he died.

So here’s a big “Fuck You” to anyone and everyone who opposes Health Care Reform. It could have saved his life.

Here’s another one to anyone who opposes the Affordable Care Act (flawed though it is, it at least kept my boy alive a bit longer).

Here’s a big “Fuck YOU, Motherfucker” to all the legislators and pundits who are still trying to block further improvements in accountability, care, coverage and quality in our national health care system.

Simply put, if you are in favor of a health care system that is purely based on greed and profit (as America’s is and has been), then you are in favor of people dying so millionaires can get even richer. And yes, Fuck You for that.

Fuck You, John Boehner. Fuck You, Mitch McConnell. Fuck You, Aetna. Fuck You, Sam Brownback. Fuck everyone who is like you, too.

You want objectivity when my kid got killed, motherfucker? Yeah, right. If it was your kid, you’d be saying the same thing I’m saying right now. So, no, I’m not objective on this topic.

And fuck it, I don’t care. Aetna banked big bucks, their people got bonuses, and where did that money come from? It came from denying care and saving money thereby: and by so doing, killing people like my son. So fuck objectivity. Sometimes, objectivity is just a bunch of rationalized, sophist bullshit.

In closing, here’s one more “FUCK YOU, MOTHERFUCKER” FOR ANYONE AND EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTS THE POLICIES THAT KILLED MY KID.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

P.S. Here’s a big shout-out to the President for still standing by the ACA when so many evil, greedy motherfuckers have been buying congresscritters to try and kill more people with bad insurance. And a big boot up the asses of those bought politicos.

You see, he died because health insurers refused to pay for the care he needed: had they paid for it, they wouldn’t have made as much profit. He died so that millionaires can get even richer, and that’s the ONLY God-damned reason he died.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

But he does support positions that would result in a lot of people dying through lack of access to health care. Mind, this writer has no degrees in psychology, and so can not diagnose the man. One does have to wonder why a non-necrophiliac would advance causes that would increase the number of dead people, though.

It is highly unlikely that Tucker Carlson gets his jollies by viewing snuff porn. But he does support positions that would result in a lot of people dying through lack of access to health care. Mind, this writer has no degrees in psychology, and so can not diagnose the man. One does have to wonder why a non-snuff-porn-freak would advance causes that would increase the number of people getting killed, though.

It is almost inconceivable that Tucker Carlson finds his pulse quickening, his palms sweating, and his jockey shorts tightening when viewing news stories about the miseries suffered by the uninsured. But he does support positions that would result in a lot of people people being very miserable indeed through lack of access to health care. Mind, this writer has no degrees in psychology, and so can not diagnose the man. One does have to wonder why someone not so perverted would advance causes that would increase the number of miserable people, though.

This writer was at the gym yesterday, walking on treadmills and pedaling exercise bikes, and had the great good fortune to be stuck in front of a TeeVee that was tuned to Fox “News”, which was in full “F*** ObamaCare” mode. FTucker’s “solution” was to get rid of the ACA, and ditch the few pathetic bits of pre-ACA regulations and oversight as well.

And that course of action would result in a lot of dead and miserable people. And it does seem that anyone who supports those actions and their resulting outcomes would have to have some sort of screw loose. So, FTucker my laddie, how in the Hell do you explain your despicable and loathsome positions, if they do not stem from some sort of truly demented perversion?

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Those who know the Blunt and Cranky family are aware that Mr. Blunt and Cranky’s son died two days ago. We are in more than a bit of shock, grief and all the other emotions that one feels at such a time. The worst thing he has ever been through in his long life.

He is taking a moment from family, funeral planning and such to speak from the heart. Obamacare allowed his son to stay insured, and that (and only that) kept him alive these past 18 months. If his precious son had not had coverage, he would have died long ago. And without the Affordable Care Act, he would not have had coverage.

All the politicians, political theoreticians, academic wonks, and smug commentators can stick that in their craws and choke on it. Lives are on the line here, people. And one life was prolonged for at least a while, while the so-called conservatives advocated (and still do) a policy that would have killed that 20-year-old kid.

If you are against the affordable care act, you are for (or do not care about)  the death of your fellow American citizens. Whether you want to admit it or not, that is the way of it. Politics and parties be damned, we are talking about living, breathing people who are sick and dying so you can advocate policies that suit your selfish natures.

If you are for the ACA, then please spread this testimony far and wide.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Regular readers know that Mr. Blunt and Cranky has had long careers in business and the arts, and is therefore not at all opposed to making money. Indeed, Adam Smith is frequently cited here: the man was a firm believer in a WELL-REGULATED free market. Because he was smart enough to see the harm that unchecked profits can cause.

Profits are not inherently bad: in the right measure, they can do a lot of good. But anything can be overdone: and the Teapublican “greed is good” mantra is an object lesson. Here, then, are three examples of the horrors that can be wrought by profits:

Number A: America’s profit-centered “health care” system kills lots of people. Including this writer’s only son. Yes, Aetna has death panels: people are denied care based on profit margins. That is why my son was kicked out of the hospital just a few hours after awakening from a coma. PROFITS CAN AND DO KILL. PROFITS KILLED MY KID.

Letter 2: American industry is constantly pushing for less (or no) regulation, in order to increase profit. Thence came disasters such as massive oil spills, poisoned rivers and aquifers, and destructive, deadly industrial accidents. Profits can and do destroy.

Thirdly: American politicos are taking bribes in record quantities to enhance the profitability of private businesses with taxpayer dollars. Yes, they call them “contributions”, but c’mon: these are bribes. Bribes that result in the theft of our hard-earned. Profits can and do corrupt.

Once again, Gentle Reader: your humble correspondent is not, repeat NOT opposed to profits. But not everything has a free-market solution. Some things are better divorced from a financial profit motive. Some things must be non-profit in order to succeed: things like health, education, public safety, and so on.

It’s long past time we put the final nail in the coffin of Reagan/Bush voodoo economics and its resulting death, destruction and corruption.

Reality is calling, America: better pick up the phone while we still can.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Pakistan just had its own version of the Newtown school massacre. Heavily-armed lunatics stormed an army-run school in Peshawar and killed lots of innocent children. And this writer has already heard more than one gun nut say this proves the need for more private gun ownership. They draw a parallel between the two killing sprees and smugly proclaim that more “good guys with guns” could have protected the kids in Peshawar.

There is a teeny-tiny problem with this “argument”: it is bulls***. Pakistan is full of gun owners, good and otherwise.

Pakistan barely regulates guns at all. Their gun culture is NRA Nirvana. In fact, the Pakistan government hands out licenses for automatic weapons to citizens who are afraid of being attacked. Hell, you can legally carry grenades and rocket launchers in some parts of the country.

Plus, the school in question is operated by the Pakistani military. Do the gun nutters really think that country’s army is a bunch of anti-gun activists? Puh-leeze.

No, Gentle Reader, what this despicable atrocity demonstrates is that guns aren’t the solution for every criminal problem. You can carry all the firepower you want on your person, and still wind up dead if some a**hole gets the drop on you. And your kids can still be killed by homicidal motherf***ers like the Taliban, Timothy McVeigh, or Adam F***ing Lanza, no matter how many guns you sell to the general population.

Security cannot be obtained by guns alone. It is a product of careful thought, law, justice, collaboration and intelligence. NONE of which the NRA bothers with.

Guns are a Constitutional right, and one which this writer believes in and exercises. Carefully and in a responsible manner, with a focus on varmint control and home defense.

The only way to keep our kids safe from gun violence is to have a society with less violence. We will never achieve that by pushing our citizens to own and carry more guns so as to be ready to commit violent acts of their own.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Lots of people are blaming ObamaCare for their health policy cancellations and premium increases. These people are either stupid or have no long-term memory functions. The health insurers have been screwing us and in some cases killing us, all so they can make obscene profits and live lives of luxury while we go bankrupt or worse. And they are still doing so. Note this well, Cranky Nation: the real enemy has not changed.

The reason policies are being cancelled and premiums jacked up is a business decision: to increase profits for the health insurance companies. It has nothing to do with Obama. Same with network limitations, co-pay increases, and the other impacts we are seeing. It is a way for the business to make money.

And that is what for-profit businesses do. They make money. They always have, and always will. In fact, that is the natural order of things.

Now, if the government ran the health care system, none of this would happen. You’d pay your taxes and get your health care, because governments don’t have to make a profit. In fact, they can’t. They are graded on how well or poorly they deliver services, not on how much money they make. So they will deliver better care. Look at every other industrial democracy if you don’t believe it.

But the same memory-challenged fools that are stupidly blaming Obama for raising their rates are in most cases also the same idiots who oppose national health care, so we should not be surprised when they say stupid s***. And we shouldn’t expect the media to report these stories accurately, or for the greedy motherf***ers who run for-profit health care companies to be honest.

But we SHOULD expect ourselves to remember that insurance companies have been f***ing us for many years now, and we should blame them first when they continue to f*** us. Otherwise, WE are the idiots, and deserve those painful, unhealthy reamings.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

It’s the same greedy, heartless, motherf***ing insurance companies that killed my son a while back. While the “news” media points their paid fingers at the Prexy, the insurers are using loopholes in the law to continue to f*** us over, just as they have always done. This is how they repay the government for not only providing them with millions of customers, but even requiring customers to buy their products: they screw us and the government.

Honorable mention to the “Republican” states that boned the working poor by refusing to take free money and provide them with insurance. That scumbucketry is another big reason that the ACA is not living up to expectations.

And of course, lots of people are so s*** stupid, they believe the Infotainment industry types who peddle the lies that the Repubs and health insurers pay them to spew at us 24/7/365.

Three causal agents for why our health care has been one of the worst in the developed world. The same three that will cause it to continue to be so in the future, unless we get off our unhealthy asses and hold those stinkers to account.

Meet the new cause, same as the old cause. F*** ’em all.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

As an avowed Radical Centrist and student of history, Mr. Blunt and Cranky is of the belief that no revolution is “inevitable”. Looking at example after example throughout time, we can see that if Leader So-and-So had paid attention and done the needful, Revolution XYZ need not have occurred.  As Isaac Asimov phrased it, conflicts can be “evitable”.

Such was the case in the French Revolution: the monarchy was informed by their ministers and experts of the steps that had to be taken to avert catastrophe, but said royals did not take the required actions. Result: a very bloody and damaging revolution that killed and despoiled the innocent along with the guilty. Read up on the Terror to see how bad things got at that time.

Bad as that was, a breakdown in 21st-century America would be far worse. Reasons:

Number A: At the beginning of the French Revolution, there was a clear pair of sides – the 1% of the day, versus everybody else. Not so in 2012 America; we are fractured across lines of ethnicity, religion, income, geography and culture. If things go to Hell, we will find ourselves in a confusing, cluster-f***ed multi-sided conflict that would make our previous Civil War look tame by comparison.

Letter 2: Not that many people in 18th-century France had firearms, and those they did have were primitive. Modern Americans own millions of sophisticated weapons. Add in related hardware and other supplies, and it is clear that we can pretty much kill anyone and everyone in the nation if we think we “have to”.

Thirdly: We live in a society that is more interconnected than any other in the history of Earth. Our banking, food, shelter, safety, transportation, health care; these and many more essential elements of modern life are dependent on a stable society. Any breakdown in society would cause us to lose the most basic tools we need to secure the essentials of life. That means that millions upon millions of us would die.

And this need not happen. Our new ruling class of Politicians, Plutocrats and Pundits (a load of Pee, as it were) may be too stubborn, vain, stupid, narcissistic, greedy and deliberately myopic to see beyond the next media cycle, but We The People have the power to change things. Power vested in us by the Constitution.  No guns required.

Folks, it is just this simple: if we keep our heads buried in the sand, our asses will be kicked in. Only by pulling our heads out and working together can we avoid yet another “evitable” revolution.

Tomorrow: some peaceful, bipartisan actions we could take to save our national a**es.
