Sometimes Mr. Blunt and Cranky happens upon a post that deserves sharing. Thus it is today, with this bit of awesomeness from Internet DJ Mr. Scorpio:

Today, as it just so happens, I found out that Sarah Palin is worth twelve million dollars

Marinate on that thought for a moment: As a person who all but demonstrates the intellectual dexterity of a rusty crankshaft all of the time, she has somehow accumulated twelve million dollars.

Obviously, you don’t need to be smart in order to get rich in America. That much is sure.

Now, how much of that she had before she became America’s most egregious example of poor family planning, I don’t know.

But she’s rich beyond her dreams of avarice now. Scratch that… Her dreams of avarice knows no bounds, as long as there are gaggles of willing rubes for her to grift. Hence, we see her advantage.

Basically, to get rich, all she had to do was invest in a complete lack of scruples. Let’s forget about any moral compass that she may have… It only points toward money.

Just recently, our favorite Wicked Grifter of the North indicated that she may toss her pointed hat into the political ring in some upcoming election. Now we’re talking about a person who’s too moronic to be voted dog catcher, but that’s not going to prevent her from exercising her delusions of grandeur, now is it?

Say whatever you will about this babbling, gun toting wolf murderer, she has a purpose and she has the blindingly stupid belief in herself to achieve that purpose. Personally, I’m aghast that she incoherently blundered her way into accumulating 12 million dollars. This says even less about her than it says about how many people who are walking around today who are willing to give her all of that money.

Many of these people vote, I’m sure of that. And they consistently vote wrong.

Now, I’m not worried for one second that Caribou Barbie is going to stumble into the Oval Office. If she can still operate her lucrative business model in the same way she has for the last six years, getting elected would be too expensive for her and limiting as well.

The grift is on. That’s all that matters. Whatever she does, just remember that no one ever got rich by underestimating the stupidity of the American people.

In Bible Spice’s case, quite the opposite.

Nice takedown of the Sparklemoose, innit? Thanks to the author for allowing this repost. Check out his writing and musical activities.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

It’s a fair question. Did Boehner and McConnell and all the other Kochsuckers work to cut down on Democratic voter turnout at the same time they stuck it to the Prexy all these years? It’s one way to interpret those falling numbers of Millennial voters:

And for a while, it didn’t look like millennials would need much convincing. As more members of this generation reached voting age, participation among young voters rose. The peak year was 2008 (52 percent). In 2012, the turnout among voters 18-29 dropped to 45 percent.

On top of that, the rate of voters under 30 who could say with certainty that they were registered to vote fell steadily after 2008, according to the Pew Research Center. By 2012, it hit 50 percent — the lowest number Pew has recorded going back as far as 1996.

Ashley Spillane, the president of Rock the Vote, says it’s no mystery why millennials, or any voters, would be turned off from the process: “Politics right now is really disheartening. I think it’s why you see in the polls that young people are not affiliating with political parties.”

Think about it for a second: right before the “Republicans” started their “f*** Obama and the voters he rode in on” campaign, youth voting numbers were frickin’ huge, because the kids believed change was possible. But after 6 years of deliberate Teabagger destruction of change, the youth of America are disillusioned and are disengaging. And Millennials tend to vote for Dems.

Coincidence? In these times? Yeah, right. There is no way to prove it, of course, but in the end it doesn’t really matter whether or not the GOP has been manipulating Millennials on purpose or just enjoying a fringe benefit of their racist, treasonous, corrupt plan to seize power.

It doesn’t matter for two reasons:
Number A: it is wrong to suppress votes, whether it is a primary or secondary goal, and
Letter 2: the way to fight back is to defy expectations, by voting.

Millennials, wake up: you have been played. Strike back by voting against every Repub in every race, every ballot, every election. Vote to show them you are smarter than they think you are. Vote, because they don’t want you to.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

That’s because if you have to pee during your six-plus-hour wait to cast a ballot, the bathrooms are verboten. Closed. Not available. No matter how long the line, or if you are elderly, or if the weather is crap (oh, you can’t do that either-no potties for you voter types).
From the article:

Instead, he received a written response announcing that the county would close all restrooms at polling places “to ensure that individuals with disabilities are not treated unfairly,” a January email stated. “[T]he Department’s policy is not to permit access to restrooms at polling sites on election days,” Assistant County Attorney Shanika Graves said in a Feb. 14 email.

This latest voter-suppression effort is, of course, designed to keep the elderly, minorities and working poor from casting their ballots: Democratic voters, in other words. The local Board of Election is pretending that this is a decision based on the rights of the disabled, which is a lie more transparent than a hooker’s blouse. No, it’s Miami-Dade county doing what it does best: rigging elections so that “Republicans” win.

If it’s any comfort to all those voters waiting in long lines to vote this year: no matter the state of the diapers they may have to wear in order to exercise their franchise, they will never be as full of s*** as the elected officials who concocted this, well, crappy idea.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

He is a despicable mass murderer, warmongering, profiteering, homophobic serial invader of sovereign nations, and by all rights should be doing time in a UN prison. Without possibility of parole.

Putin can aid and abet a wanker who fancied himself a tech wiz and become a darling of libertarians on the left and right, and that may charm them into thinking he is a good guy, but the reality is quite different. One calculated act of maskirova does not outweigh the brutal repression , invasions, and perversions of justice for his own benefit. And that isn’t even including the crimes against humanity committed during his KGB days.

A question to any and all Putinistas, Putin apologists , Putin fans, and suchlike: how in the f***ing f*** can you do it? In the face of these atrocities, how can you give aid and comfort to such a monster?

And what does your support for a demon make you? Just a gullible idiot? Or a monster yourself?

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

And guess how many Wall Street Crooks have gone to jail? Answer- none. That’s right, the people who crashed the world economy and caused the Great Recession have never been called to account. In fact, most of them are still where they were, getting richer than Croesus.

And one of them became Ohio’s Governor.

Think about it.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

(The charmingly not cranky grandbaby and awesome daughter are in town, so the Bluntandcrankies will be running about tomorrow, thence the early post. Enjoy, agree, argue, take offense, whatever works for you. Just remember to be an American, and to love each other as best you can.)

Mr. Blunt and Cranky lugged a supertanker full o’ snark at certain members of the Loony Left this week, for being so insistent on having unattainable perfection that they wind up causing great harm by refusing to support the merely good. He did so (if he may say so himself, and he does; yes, he does) in a rude, caustic, bellicose and generally crappy tone. Not surprisingly, a fair few Loony Lefties took offense, and quite justifiably so. However, the obnoxious tone of the post did not render the point contained therein invalid.

As has been said before, this is not a blog that pulls punches or in any way pretends to be anything other than…well,  blunt and cranky. However, the tone and topic selection are neither random nor accidental, and the style is not something based on a whim or too much Scotch. In fact, the blog is deliberately written in a very specific manner and for a very specific purpose: to get the attention of people who are living in bubbles, stuck in ruts, or deep in denial.

The specific reality being denied this week is that sitting out an election fails to impact the outcome (yes, some people actually believe this) of said election. Or that voting third-party fails to impact the outcome of an election. Both of these mindsets are mind-bogglingly stupid. (We shall exclude those who accept that their votes impact the outcome: that is not stupid, in fact it is refreshingly honest and can lead to some awesomely fun debates.)

No one with at least a third-grade education would deny that failing to put quarters into a piggy bank has an effect on the amount of money in said piggy bank: nor would they deny that spending a quarter on candy instead of saving it has a like impact on the amount of money in said piggy bank. Indeed, if you tried to argue the point, most of us would be calling for the “nice young men in their clean white coats” to come and take you away (apologies to Jerry Samuels).

But change “quarter” and “piggy bank” to “vote” and “ballot box”, and a surprising number of people seem to think that basic math takes a holiday. If that is not loony; denial; stupid; or any of the other pejorative terms this blogger has flung across the ether of late, he’ll eat the back tires off your tractor after it has been driven through a sewage lagoon.

Every vote counts, the more so since many states are trying to suppress the votes of anyone to the left of the Teabaggers.  When votes are suppressed from one population (the elderly, the poor, the black, etc.) then our votes are even more important, because we have to make up the difference.  We can’t control the bought-and-paid-for courts, we can’t control the corrupt and crooked lawmakers and election officials, all we can do is get our arses to the polls, and drag our friends with us. Thus do we show solidarity and support for our fellow Americans who have had their voting rights stripped away: by using our own.

And to anyone who thinks that their vote does not matter, or that they can take an election off so as to make some sort of hifalutin point: less than 600 Gore votes in Florida would have changed the course of world history in 2000. Six-F***ing-Hundred votes out of Millions. If just that teeny tiny number of people had not been in denial (or smugly sitting on their high horses, or complacent, etc.), then we would likely have had no Iraq war, no 9/11, no deficit, no Patriot Act, and so on. A few hundred people understanding that one sometimes must choose the lesser of two evils, lest the worst of the two should triumph: understanding, and then acting against the greater evil. That is all we needed, and we did not get it.

Your vote DOES matter, and has an impact. Everyone’s vote DOES matter and has an impact. We must all nut up and admit that our votes (or non-votes) come with consequences: most especially, we have to admit it to ourselves.
