Remember 9/11? And how the Bushistas said we really needed the Patriot Act? And the repeal of habeas corpus? And warrantless wiretaps? And secret agencies and laws (and tons of oh-so-secret funding)? And a couple of land wars that killed lots of soldiers and civilians?

And a new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to rule them all, and in the darkness bind them? Ohmygoodnessgracious, the DHS was ESSENTIAL to winning the Global War on Terror (GWOT) (Teapubbies totally suck out loud at acronyms, have you ever noticed?). We simply HAD to have it, and to spend billions of taxpayer dollars on it. And right away, too. Remember?

Of course you remember. So do we all. Which makes things seem puzzling today, when the Teapublicans are willing to kneecap that ever-so-very important agency, just to stick a thumb in Obama’s eye. How could they take such a risk to such an all-important entity over such a trivial matter of prosecutorial discretion of alleged illegal immigrants?

The answer is obvious: DHS isn’t really important.

DHS, GWOT, and the entirety of the “Republican agenda” of the day was, is, and will always be neither more nor less than  a right-wing wet dream come true; an enormous, extra-constitutional seizure of power and money, designed solely to enrich and empower a privileged few while impoverishing disempowering the masses.

Now that we know this to be the case, it’s time to do away with DHS and every other Bush-era “Republican” piece of policy or law that has anything at all to do with national security: because it was bulls*** when it was proposed, bulls*** when enacted, bulls*** when expanded, and is still bulls*** today.

Away with Gitmo, torture, wiretaps,  secrecy, imperialist wars of choice,  the Patriot Act, all of it. Throw it all onto the dungheap of history (as one should always do with bulls***) and return our stolen funds and freedoms to us.

And prosecute the conniving mammy-jammers responsible for the scam as well. Let them stand under the crap they created as we pitchfork it onto their compost pile.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

It was about terror, period. That’s what terrorists DO, remember. Terrorists terrorize. They can invent reasons for specific targets, yes, and they can claim responsibility, blame their victims and so on, but at sevens and last, terrorists cause terror. If Charlie Hebdo hadn’t printed some tasteless satirical ‘toons, the terrorists would not have done nothing: no, they’d have found a different target and claimed a different justification for their heinous actions. Because terror is what these mutts do.

Thnk about it: what do the Alfred P. Murrah building, the Manchester city center, the Tokyo subway and a Parisian magazine have in common? Apart from being terrorist targets, they have not one damned thing in common. But they were all attacked, weren’t they?

So don’t waste your time suggesting cartoonists tone down their work, don’t ban veils, don’t respond to any of the stated pretexts for any individual terrorist actions. In fact, don’t take any actions at all to placate the beasts: it will do no good. The only sure way to deal with terrorists is twofold: one part of it is relatively easy, the other is very difficult.

Part Number A: Capture or kill those terrorists who are actively involved in planning and carrying out terrorist acts. That’s not exactly easy and it sure as hell ain’t safe or pretty, but it’s straightforward police and military work. Lots of governments are engaged in this useful activity right now.

Part Letter 2: Get rid of the REASONS people become terrorists or support terrorists in the first place. This is fiendishly difficult work, and it won’t be accomplished anytime soon, but we need to start working on it. Terrorists are made, not born; and for what reasons are they made?

Terrorists are made because of inequality and injustice, which are used by unscrupulous motherf***ers to radicalize previously sane people via propaganda and desensitization. If there are no starving, marginalized or abused individuals to manipulate, there will be no terrorists made, because the raw materials won’t exist.

This is something not many people and almost no governments are actively doing, because it is enormously expensive and involves painful soul-searching on the parts of the oppressors (something oppressors are loathe to do). It ALSO involves the oppressors no longer being, well, oppressors. And how often do you see that happen?

How often do you see a Bashir Al-Assad or a Jamie Dimon voluntarily give up their holds on power and wealth? How often do you see such scumbuckets relinquish their death grips on the collective throats of those people they oppress, rob, starve, and manipulate? Ever seen it done? NEVER. But it must be done, and it is the only cure for terrorism. Remove the root cause, and you remove the effect.

So cartoon all you want, wear what you want, eat what you want, blaspheme all you care to. None of these things will make things any more or less safe. Because terrorists aren’t going away if you don’t offend them. They’ll only go away when there are no more terrorists.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Number A: They don’t care who they kill, so long as they get what they want. Teapublicans are responsible for deaths of women and children due to starvation, lack of medical care, or indistrial poisoning; Communists kill dissidents by the trainload; and Terrorists kill innocent people aplenty via cowardly acts of violence. So for all three of these groups, murder is one of their tools of choice.

Letter 2: They are blinded by their senseless “faith” and cannot see the real world and the facts on which it is built. Teapublicans cling to the fiction of Supply-Side economics even as it destroys the nation; Communists insist that Marxism-Leninism is the inevitable destiny of the world, even after almost every Marxist government has long-since collapsed; and Terrorists insist that their God/Sacred Cause wants them to kill us all and let Him/It sort us all out, when there is not a shred of evidence that their Deity (or Cause) does, in fact, exist. So for all three groups, living in a dream world is a defining characteristic, as is rejection of reality.

Thirdly: They keep on doing the same dumbass things over and over again, even though said dumbassery never, EVER works. Teapubbies keep on stealing our tax money and giving it to the 1%, even though the benefits never trickle down. Communists keep on oppressing their people, even though it never results in an egalitarian society. And Terrorists keep on murdering innocent people, even though all it does is unite the rest of the world against the terrorists. So for all three groups, they fit the old definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again, hoping for a different result.

So what ARE the differences between “Republicans”, Communists and Terrorists? Not much, really, unless you count wardrobe choices:

(Admit it: you thought the last one would be somebody in desert robes, didn’t you? Nope, it’s Timothy McVeigh, a home-grown terrorist.)

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Here it is, if you can stand to read it: the report showed how the Bushistas, PNAC types, and “Republicans” in general shat themselves in terror after 9/11, resulting in idiot wars of choice and manifold panic-driven decisions, including the ones that involved torture.

Cowards they are, as has frequently been written on this very blog. But the Torture Report gives a horrifying view into the consequences of that cowardice, that fear, that wimpiness-concealed-by-bravado that characterizes modern Repubs. In their panic-stricken, fear-blinded, gutless, craven states of “mind”, the Bush/Cheney regime lashed out in a manner that was far beyond normal evil:
* People were tortured.
* People were tortured to death.
* The torture was completely f***ing useless, and in fact caused a lot of damage.
* Innocent people were dragooned and tortured.
* “Republicans” proposed, created and implemented these programs.
* “Republicans” STILL think we should be torturing people.

Since then, the GOP has continued to show its yellow bellies on repeated occasion: by making the Prexy keep Gitmo open (said Gitmo being full of tortured people); by not allowing the tortured people to have fair trials; and by trying to cover the whole sickening mess up, even after the world already knows what we did. Cowards, poltroons, pusillanimous dastards, faint-hearted, lily-livered scaredy-cats: that, friends, is what the GOP is composed of.

And the fact that the majority of American voters recently opted to bring in even more GOP “representatives” means that those voters are, what, themselves, exactly? Ponder that one, peeps.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Another example of why the “no difference between the parties” line is a bunch of bulls***. Dems fight against Terrorists in word and deed, while Teapubbies talk a big game when it comes to law and order: but the Repub walk doesn’t match the talk.

Example Number A, take Cliven Bundy and his Moocher Militia, who violated even more laws than Bin Laden, but still got support from the GOP. In fact, not only do Repubs support Bundy’s sedition, they were lining up to get their pictures taken with him. And after members of the Bundy Bunch murdered some cops, “Republicans” said and did little or nothing  – except, of course, continued support.

Example Letter 2:  we see that Repubs love the Sovereign Citizen terrorists. The Justice Department calls these mutts the most dangerous security threat to our nation, but that doesn’t stop GOP politicos like LePage from including them in their inner circles, or granting them rights to carry weapons that scare the sh** out of law-abiding Americans. Hell, even when they commit terrorist crimes the Repubs don’t do much of anything about it.

Example the Third: always remember, Gentle Reader, Bush and his fellow Repubs allowed Bin Laden to get away with murder – the worst foreign terrorist attack on our soil, thousands dead, and the Tevangelicals said “meh”. They used hs face to whip up the population in a manner that even Goebbels would have envied. But while abusing his face, Repubs kissed his a**. Then, of course, they bitched about Obama, who brought Bin Laden to justice.

There we have it,  another example of the enormous differences between the two political parties.

Remember this when a Raging Righty or Loony Leftie tries to tell you that there is “little or no dfference”: that is a big, fat lie.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

In 2001, we had an incompetent and illegitimate “President”, whose arrogance and sense of entitlement was a big reason for the fact that he stupidly ignored the advice of every single expert and allowed 9/11/ to happen. He then lied us into a stupid war with Iraq, crapped all over the Constitution, and bankrupted the nation. Oh, and Bush the Dumber ignored the will of the people.

Today we have a President, twice elected by a clear majority of voters, who has made a good start at cleaning up the messes left behind by the Bushistas. He is moving us back towards Constitutional law, has started to reduce the deficit, brought tens of thousands of American soldiers home, killed the man responsible for 9/11, and generally acted like a, well, legitimate President. All the while receiving little or no appreciation from much of anybody on the Left, Right, or in the Center.

And last night he proved that he DOES listen to vox populi, when he asked Congress to wait to vote on authorization to bomb Syria. The people are against it. He listened. Now he is looking for new options instead of flipping 300 million of us the bird and merrily marching off to war (as the Shrub did).

The best way to honor those who died on this day in 2001 is to show that we have learned the lessons from that horrible tragedy. Obama,  like him or not, (and this writer doesn’t much like the man) is doing just that. Credit where it’s due; so thanks, Mister President. It’s nice to have a grownup at 1600 again.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Yes, Bush f***ed up and failed to defend the homeland. He was told, time and time again, that al-Qaida was planning to attack us, and he chose to ignore the threat.

This August 6th, twelve years ago, one of the biggest blunders of a blundering and illegitimate administration took place. Please note that Obama, at least, has learned from Bush The Dumber’s mistakes, even if Bush hasn’t.

Here is the August 6th briefing that the Shrub s***-canned. Screw him and every one of his crew for failing to protect us when they should have.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Mr. Blunt and Cranky cannot believe how stupid and gullible his fellow Americans have gotten to be. Really, he should go into used car sales or something, because the lot of you have evidently lost your critical faculties of late. Let us review:

Act One: Benghazi. It was spun by the “news” media and certain politicos as a breathtaking scandal that could doom Obama’s chances of re-election, and lots of hysterical stories were written and accusations were leveled. As time passed, we learned that a lot of the initial stories were false, wrong, or at the very least inaccurate. In the end, it turned out that the cries of “Wolf” were hysterical, manipulative crap. The truth of the matter is, people had f***ed up, heads rolled and changes had to be made, but the Prexy had nothing to do with it. The media retracted very little of what they had said, and the politicos retracted nothing. So lots of stupid people STILL think there is a Benghazi scandal, even though the wolf-criers have been proven to be liars.

Act Two: the latest IRS dustup. It too was spun by the “news” media and certain politicos as a breathtaking scandal that could doom Obama’s chances of accomplishing anything in his second term, and lots of hysterical stories were written and accusations were leveled. So lots of stupid people STILL think there is an IRS scandal, even though the wolf-criers have been proven to be liars.

Act Three: The NSA Scandal. Just like before, it is being spun as the scandal of the century, hysterical bulls*** is plentiful, and people want to throw our President our of office. Never mind that the quote Journalism end quote is a load of sloppy garbage and just as in our two previous examples, falls apart like a cheap nose wipe in the rain when subjected to scrutiny.

And what are Americans doing? Do they say “Gee whiz, they cried “Wolf” before, maybe we better wait and see what the facts are”? Oh, don’t be silly. No, just like puppets on strings they are jumping up and down, getting outraged, freaking out, and acting as if this scandal du jour is somehow different than all the other times the boys in the media and Congress have cried “Wolf” in the past. Wake the f***ing f*** up, peeps: just like before, we’ll find out that people f***ed up, and heads will roll and changes will be made. But none of this means that Obama is some sort of evil Lupine creature. No matter how many times the wolf criers may call him one.

So, why for the love of GOD, do so many of you keep believing those little f***ers when they cry wolf? Really, people, you should have learned by now to wait for proof before believing the lying wolf criers.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Mr. Blunt and Cranky’s best friend is a veteran. A decorated combat veteran. And Bush The Smarter laid his ass off, screwing him out of the retirement bennies that he so richly deserved (they called it a “reduction in force”, but a layoff by any other name still stinks). Support our troops? Not so much. That friend got fired by bean-counters, and never mind what promises had been made to him by his government.

Right now, Congressional “Republicans” are ready, willing and intending to screw our military six ways from Sunday, all because the Repubs want to score points on the President over Sequestration. Support our troops? Not if they can be used and abused by cynical hacks on Capitol Hill.

Our veterans are denied the health care they need, the support they deserve, and the respect they have earned. After sacrificing everything for us, they are kicked to the curb with only a “thank you” (if that). And gratitude is worth its weight in gold. (Think about that one, you’ll get it.)

Here’s one example: the guy who killed Bin Laden is unemployed. Yes, you read that right: one of the best American warriors has gotten so little support that he can’t pay his bills:Support our troops? Yeah, right.
