Yes, that is what happened. A retired police officer named Curtis Reeves got so mad about young father Chad Oulson texting his young daughter during a movie, he shot the poor guy and his wife. Mr. Oulson was unarmed and is now dead, because he loved his daughter and texted her while he and his wife went out on a short date.

The murderer in this case was a highly trained public safety professional, and on the face of it would seem an unlikely person to just up and kill a man over such a petty thing as texting. That being the case, we all might want to think very hard about carrying guns with us in public places. Had Mister Reeves been carrying, say, mace instead of a .380, he would have been just as safe, and Mister Oulson’s daughter would still have her daddy.

But because Curtis Reeves is like so many Americans (cowardly little wussies who are too s***-scared to go to a friggin’ movie without a cannon jammed down their trousers), a cute young preschooler will have to live the rest of her life without her father, and her mother will have to raise her alone. All for no good reason.

The lesson here, friends, is that a “well-regulated militia” does not = a “bunch of idiots running around with handguns 24/7”. There ARE places in our country in which one would be advised to have a weapon; but a movie theatre during a matinee in a good neighborhood is not one of them. We have the right to keep and bear arms, and we also have the obligation to use that right responsibly.

And because some scaredy-cat old coot did NOT use his Second Amendment rights in a responsible manner, a grieving widow and her toddler are weeping over the loss of the man they loved. A loss that should not have happened. A loss that would not have happened if the old fart had been a good citizen, used his brain, and left his handgun locked up in the gun safe.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Christ in a teapot, this is beyond stupid. Iowa is allowing legally blind people to carry guns in public. Yes, that is correct.

This is bats*** crazy. Blind people packing heat and blazing away on the street. Absolutely bugf*** insane.

From the Des Moines register:

Private gun ownership — even hunting — by visually impaired Iowans is nothing new. But the practice of visually impaired residents legally carrying firearms in public became widely possible thanks to gun permit changes that took effect in Iowa in 2011.

“It seems a little strange, but the way the law reads, we can’t deny them (a permit) just based on that one thing,” said Sgt. Jana Abens, a spokeswoman for the Polk County sheriff’s office, referring to a visual disability.

Polk County officials say they’ve issued weapons permits to at least three people who can’t legally drive and were unable to read the application forms or had difficulty doing so because of visual impairments.”

People, please: this is where the NRA and gun nuttery in general have gone. To a very strange place indeed, where not just convicted felons and the mentally ill must have guns (yes, they think that); but now, blind people who cannot see what they are shooting at must have guns, too. If there is a dumber, crazier, and just generally jackass idea out there than this one, it will be surprising.

Guns for people who cannot see. Good God.

Remember these Christian Soldiers?Image

Yep, the ones who think Jesus wants us to pack hidden heat so as to waste each other as needed. Them are the ones.

This week, they’re running a “Constitution Class”. The good Lord knows what they’re  teaching each other, but if their “understanding” of Constitutional law is anything like their “understanding” of Holy Scripture, this is some pretty scary stuff.

No picture of the Church sign this time: we considered the wisdom of pulling into the parking lot of a church full of gun-crazed Fundagelical loons, any number of whom are likely carrying weapons, and we decided that was NOT the prudent course of action. Kind of like driving by an Al-Quaida training camp – do you REALLY want to drop in on them?

Mr. B & C

P.S. A point of clarification: These zeebs are free to use their First and Second Amendment rights, as we see them doing (Mr. Blunt and Cranky is a Presbyterian who uses all of his Constitutional rights, after all). The reason separation of church and state was brought up here is this: entirely too many Americans (including elected and appointed “representatives” and officials at all levels and in all branches of government) want to trash the Establishment clause and make our nation into a Fundagelical Theocracy.

One thing our Founders knew well were the dangers of such a form of government, but too many of us have forgotten. So when we see churches like this one arming themselves and seeking political power, we need to be aware of the threat they pose
