How quickly we forget, amongst the current din of Liberal-bashing: ’twas only a few years ago that G. Gordon Liddy (he of Watergate and Steely Dan infamy) said, and we quote him verbatim:

Now if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms comes to disarm you and they are bearing arms, resist them with arms. Go for a head shot; they’re going to be wearing bulletproof vests. … They’ve got a big target on there, ATF. Don’t shoot at that, because they’ve got a vest on underneath that. Head shots, head shots…. Kill the sons of bitches.

That is a right-wing thought leader and convicted felon saying things that far exceed anything that, say, Obama, DiBlasio or LeBron have said about cops. That is not someone asking for Justice: it is a mainstream “Republican” advocating the wholesale execution of law enforcement personnel. A Nixon Repub salivating over the possible bodies of dead police. And he is not alone:

How about Teapublican Craven Cliven Bundy acolyte Jerad Miller, who actually ambushed and murdered two innocent cops in Las Vegas?
Or Larry McQuilliams, who shot up a Texas courthouse and was, yes, a Republican, Teabagger-on-steroids, right-winger?

Do you hear about the manifold anti-cop words and deeds of Teapublicans like these today, Gentle Reader? No, you don’t. You hear a pack of lies and selective omissions about liberals and people of color, who supposedly hate cops, that is what you hear. And it is ALL you hear.

Never mind that DiBlasio already gave the NYPD $400,000,000.00 in EXTRA funding, in less than a year. Nearly half a billion ADDITIONAL DOLLARS to the NYPD from the mayor the NYPD union blames for the killings of two officers. Screw the soundbites, that is supporting the cops. But do the Raging Righties in their Tightie Whities acknowlowledge this? Of course not.

It’s one thing to call for Justice, as people in the Center and the Left have been doing. That is constitutionally-protected free speech and is not violent. Indeed, it is aimed at the same ends pushed by honest cops and prosecutors: a fair, just, and orderly society. One in which the police are our public servants and we their supporters.

But when Right-Wing Jackalopes like Fox News talking heads and other Repubs (like Police Union Chiefs in St. Louis, Cleveland, and New York) blame people of color, liberals and non-Wingnut politicians for the killings of cops, it is not aimed at justice. Not at all. It is “Republicans” trying to use the dead bodies of Americans for political advantage.

Like Bush did after he crawled out of his hole after 9/11 and many occasions therafter, it is what Repubs do these days. A sort of political necrophila, in which the dead are merely tools to be used for partisan advantage. Ghoulish, revolting, disrespectful behavior that SHOULD be beyond the pale. But, alas, in these sorry times, nothing is too extreme, too disgusting, too taboo for a “Republican” to say or do in the pursuit of his or her own power and wealth.

Those two dead cops deserve better. So do Brown, Gardner and other murdered police and civilians. They are, all of them, deserving of justice; not having their corpses used for the profit and pleasure of Right-Wing Necrophiliacs.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

In Russia, where the State controls the media and the Oligarchy loves the President, Vladimir Putin is hugely popular with the masses. In spite of starting new wars, wrecking the economy, destroying jobs and empoverishing millions. Because the media is controlled by his allies.

In America, where the Oligarchy controls the media and hates the President, Barack Obama is hugely unpopular with the masses. In spite of ending two wars, saving the economy, creating jobs and lifting millions out of poverty. Because the media is controlled by his enemies.

See a pattern? Yeah, me too.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Your humble correspondent and his amazingly tolerant spouse spent last weekend with family, preparing for all manner of family-altering events. In the course of that, we were exposed to Cable “News” of various flavors (we don’t typically watch that kind of crap at chez Blunt and Cranky) on family members’ TeeVees, as they keep those channels on during waking hours. This was a depressingly revelatory experience, and it explained a lot about how America has would up so close to becoming a Dystopia on the order of Brave New World, 1984, or one of such.

What this writer saw was a load of propaganda, innuendo, speculation, dissimulation, distraction, obfuscation, panic-mongering, manipulation, and outright lies: call it 90+% of the programming. Any actual news appeared at random and infrequently. This, whether one was subjected to Fox, CNN, or MSNBC. The vast majority of airtime was swallowed up by “panel discussions”, “analysis”, and members of the the Punditocracy doing their Pundit thing.

So this morning, listening to the Beeb on the car radio, all one heard was the Brit Flavor of the same programming. Perhaps a bit more news there, but not by a lot. And it brought home the pervasiveness of the phenomenon: we are getting the same sort of near-as-no-matter brainwashing as described by Huxley or Orwell. Big Brother may not be watching us 24/7/365 yet, but He is most certainly doing His very best to control our thinking. And having great success at it, too.

Ebola? Be afraid, shun the infected!
A mass shooting? Be afraid, buy more guns and hide!
Terrorists? Be afraid, elect authoritarians!
People of Color in our country? Be afraid, vote to take away their rights!

On and on, on nearly every topic (except the occasional cat video), fear was the product being sold. And a neo-Fascist, authoritarian approach was the lone solution being presented as the “only way” to be “safe”.

America has gone down this road before: the “Redskins”, the “Yellow Peril”, and the “Red Scare” are just a few examples of how the powers that be use the media to manipulate us, mislead us, and bit by bit, enslave us. By pitting us against the “Other” du jour, we are led down a twisted road to a Dystopian nation, in which we will all be at risk of being “Othered” if we don’t stay in line.

One bright spot: our President doesn’t watch cable news: http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/jay-carney-president-obama-is-various-reader-of-print-does-not-watch-cable-news_b243577 One very dark spot: this is presented as a very unusual and possibly negative thing. By, of course, cable news:

STELTER: Is it true the president doesn’t watch any cable news?

CARNEY: It is true, which doesn’t mean that he doesn’t get news, in a real time basis. He does. He’s a voracious consumer of the printed word, even the electronic printed word, and but he doesn’t — he doesn’t watch cable news. I have spent, you know, countless hours with him on Air Force One, especially, in the conference room where we always had the TV on, and it was never in any of the trips I ever took with him, tuned in to cable news.

So hey, cool, the Prexy isn’t getting the full brainwash treatment. Yay. He’s not peddling as much fear and loathing as most DC Politicos. But of course, most people don’t like him much, so who cares what he has to say?

I know most people don’t like Obama; after all, I heard it on CNN this weekend…

The march was impressive by any objective measure: people across the world held similar events, but none approached the size or intensity of the NYC protest. The media kinda-sorta reported on it in a desultory manner (if at all), as usually happens when Lefties do something significant (but let one Teabagger hold up a misspelled sign and it’s “breaking news” for days). So the questions of “what good did it do?” and “what next?” are very important today.

Sadly, because of the Infotainment industry’s biases and the general lack of mainstream political support for the climate change movement, the march itself may or may not have much of an impact at all. If it didn’t make a big impression on the nation, it won’t result in pressure on the politicos. And pressure on politicos was the point of the exercise.

This makes “what next?” an even bigger and better question. And the answer is plain and simple: VOTE. Vote at every election, on every race, every issue, every time.

Voting can make changes that the biggest marches cannot, the more so since politicians assume that you won’t do it. They ignore the electorate and focus on the big-money types who bribe our “public servants”: those bribing bastards ALWAYS participate in politics, because they know it is important.

If those 400,000 marchers would all show up at the polls, the outcome of any number of races in the 2014 election would be changed for the better. Deniers would lose and reality-based candidates would win. Legislation would be written to change the way we pollute.

Marches and civil disobedience are powerful tools to help effect change. But unless we take that same spirit and work ethic to the polls as well, nothing will change. Only when politicos are afraid of being voted out of office will they respond to the will of the people.

March. Then vote. But if you can only do one of the two, vote.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Yeah, we all thought we were done with ol’ Willie, but it was not meant to be. Here he is on CNN, claiming that he “couldn’t afford” to pay enough people to staff his campaign.

Yes, that’s right, a man with hundreds of millions of dollars (that we know about) to his name says that a Chicago lawyer with only a mill or two in the bank had more money than he did. Really, Mitty?

Better build a Crown O’ Polished Turds elevator next to your car elevator, boyo, because you keep on accumulating these trophies.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Really, could it be anyone else? Ever since Monday’s bombing, the Clueless News Network  has been full of fertilizer. Time after time, they have leapt to conclusions, jumped at shadows, and made mountains out of molehills. These activities might make a good workout regimen, but they make horrible news.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky swore off CNN after Candy and Poppy did their “Sympathy for the Rapist” bit. But alas, he was stuck in a room on Tuesday morning, and that room had CNN on, and he could not get at the remote. So he was obliged to watch those “journalists” alternating between wild speculation and self-aggrandizing for over an hour. And that’s pretty much how they spent the rest of the week: slandering innocents, demonizing “dark-skinned” people and Moslems, and half-heartedly walking back their many misstatements.

Even Congress, we would venture to say, hasn’t told as many whoppers this week as the Clueless News Network. And so they have truly earned their Crown O’ Polished Turds.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Little Johnny earned his Crown O’ Polished Turds for:

Number A: skipping out on a briefing that would have told him what he wanted to know,

Letter 2: at the same time giving a press conference in which he complained about not being told anything,

Thirdly –  throwing, a s*** fit when a reporter noticed and called him on it.

McCain skips Benghazi briefing, gets testy when questioned by CNN

Bow down and genuflect to his Most Imperial Lyingness (that seems to be what he expects these days). John McCain, the Lying Sack of S*** of The Week.

Disclaimer: not all individual Republicans are being bitch-slapped herein. Mr. Blunt and Cranky was raised as an Eisenhower Republican (which makes him a Radical Centrist these days, the Modern Repubs having nothing to do with the traditions, values, or conduct of the party), so be it understood that it is the Party and its leadership that are being called out. Got it? Great.

It has become increasingly clear that the Republican Party has lost all contact with facts  (AKA “truth”). They lie, rinse, and repeat. When called out on their lies, they mock the facts and those who check them. Not that the phenomenon is new, but the degree is:

Apologies for the ad, but worth the wait – Peter King said “I don’t care about fact-checkers”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BBZ0xFp6Ws&feature=related

Here’s another top Repub pooh-poohing facts – Neil Newhouse said “We’re not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers,” http://www.tennessean.com/article/20120905/COLUMNIST0150/309050062/Fact-checking-beneath-Romney-campaign

More examples, of course exist; a depressingly large number (this writer took all of ten minutes to find, read/listen, then post these two examples, so imagine how many you could find if you actually tried) of occasions on which top Republicans straight-out say that they don’t care what the truth is.

The modern Republican party has decided that lying is a good thing. They have embraced dishonesty. They proudly spew their lies and act as though they are right in so doing. While your humble correspondent misses his departed parents, he is at least pleased that they aren’t here to see the slimy, filthy, prevaricating, cheating, thieving f***ing Falsehood Factory that their beloved party has become.

Gentle readers, ask yourself these two questions:

[1] If your five-year-old child  tried treating you like the Republicans treat you, would you reward them for lying?

[2] How can you trust an organization that straight-out says that they have lied to you, are lying to you, and will continue to lie to you?

Ask yourselves these questions. And if you still vote for the Republican Party (v.2012), then you are saying that you like liars, and trust them to control your life.
