Supreme Court “Republicans” are helping to Steal another Election.

Ohio’s stinking “Republican” Secretary of State John (“Yes, the kind that pays for whores”) Husted has finally hit the US Supreme Court jackpot: the five partisan Wingnuts thereon are helping “Republicans” steal yet another election:

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The nation’s highest court on Monday granted an emergency plea from state officials to block a lower court’s order expanding statewide early voting days and times.

The court issued its order without an opinion or explanation, noting the court’s liberal Justices Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Stephen G. Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Kagan would not have granted the stay. Chief Justice John G. Roberts and Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Antonin Scalia and Anthony M. Kennedy voted to grant the stay.

Ohio’s disastrous 2004 election shows the state cannot operate an election on only one day, argued attorneys for the ACLU. In papers filed in Supreme Court on Saturday, they said early voting, including Sunday “Souls to the Polls” events, have become woven into the fabric of Ohio’s democratic process.

“That election [in 2004] resulted in waiting times to vote that stretched into the day after Election Day and failed to provide meaningful access to the ballot for tens of thousands of Ohio voters,” they wrote. “Ohio thus comes to court with dirty hands.”

And the Repubs amongst the Supremes, who illegally installed an illegitimate occupant (Bush the Lesser) to the office of the Presidency, have even dirtier hands. Hands they now proudly display, filth and bloodstains plain to see.

All pretense of legitimacy is now gone, and the Roberts Court has fully revealed its true intent: the permanent takeover of our government by their ideological “soul” mates and paymasters in the GOP. Surprised? You shouldn’t be.

The only way, and by that I mean the ONLY F***ING WAY to save this country from the tender mercies of the Rightish Inquisition is for the rest of us to VOTE in this election. Vote against every Elephant on every ballot in every race. Take back the House and keep the Senate.

That way, some actual jurists can be placed on the Supreme Court, replacing the corrupt partisan Repub motherf***ers who just f***ed tens of thousands of us out of our right to vote.

John Arthur, Warrior, has passed away.

A very brave man has died. John Arthur, who with his husband forced the Teapublican government of Ohio to recognize their same-sex marriage, has passed away. He will be listed as Mr. Obergefell’s husband on the death certificate, and the two will be buried side by side.

You know, just like every other married couple. Because he was a warrior. Because he had to be a warrior.

RIP John Arthur. If there is any justice in this universe, your memory will be honored for many years to come.

The Steubenville Rape Grand Jury has issued its first indictment.

And the AG has said the “investigation continues”.

A hopeful sign. Keep your eyes peeled, folks. There’s lots of other “adults” in the town who need jailing.

WTF, Ohio?

Ohio, a Purple State that was stupid enough to elect a 100% Red government, has been dealing with the consequences of that idiotic decision. And so it goes today, when Ohio’s AG has decided it is his Christian duty to harass, abuse, and discriminate against a legally-married couple, one of whom is about to die, because they are gay. And only because they are gay.

As noted here, a Federal judge ordered Ohio not to do this. And AG DeWine is telling them to pound sand. Of all the inhuman, unconstitutional, jackass things to do. An Attorney General should know better.

Because of this hateful course of action, a man may not be allowed a decent burial in his family plot. General DeWine has done some great work on human trafficking, sexual assault, pill mills, and other criminal matters, and had been praised (including on this blog) for so doing. But this action is beyond the pale.

The AG will waste taxpayer money, harm an Ohio family, go against the wishes of the local government and defy a federal judge, and will lose in the end. WTF?

Update: DeWine is not appealing the TRO, so some people think that means he is not out to shaft these poor guys. However, if Mr. Arthur lives past early August, he WILL fight a preliminary and permanent injunction to allow Arthur, who is in hospice care, to be listed as married on his death certificate and Obergefell to be listed as his surviving spouse.

So, he’s still a hateful, discriminatory dick for doing this.

Steubenville Rape Case Ain’t Over Yet

It’s on like donkey kong in Steubenville, where the Grand Jury investigation just completed Day One of its work. And insofar as one can tell, they are picking up rocks aplenty to find the slime beneath.

Investigators have searched public and private buildings, interviewed multiple individuals (like the useless “parents” who own the house in which Jane Doe was gang-raped), and generally scaring the Hell out of lots of people who deserve to be terrified. Here’s a snippet from the above link (we recommend you click and read):
“Investigators searched Steubenville High School and the local school board offices Thursday.
Investigators also searched Vestige Digital Investigations, a digital forensics storage company in Medina, in Northeast Ohio. The company’s connection to the case was unclear, and it denies it’s the subject of a criminal investigation.
The owners of a home where a photo was taken of the Weirton, W.Va., girl being carried by the two boys later convicted of raping her also have been interviewed by investigators.
DeWine says nothing is off the table for the grand jury, which he announced within hours of the guilty verdict March 17.”

Here’s hoping that the rest of those responsible for the horrific crimes committed in that town wind up doing time along with the smug little s***s who were rightfully convicted a while back. We’ll see what the Grand Jury comes up with.

At the very least, it’s more than has been done in Torrington and Nova Scotia.

We Need Anonymous to Ensure Justice for Rape Victims? Sadly, Yes. Yes, We Do.

In America, far too many rapists are not made to pay for their crimes, and so they go merrily raping along, while their victims’ cases are marginalized, deprioritized, or just plain ignored by the local law enforcement agencies who are supposed to “protect and serve” them. Sometimes this happens because of incompetence, sometimes it’s corruption or ignorance, and sometimes it’s because the cops secretly think that women are to blame for being raped. Regardless of the cause, it’s a shameful fact that Rape Culture in America is alive and well, and enabled in part by the cops, prosecutors and judges who fail their communities on a daily basis.

Enter Anonymous, stage left. When a vicious gang rape was committed upon a teenager in Steubenville, Ohio, local law enforcement at first did nothing at all. Then a local blogger started making some noise and the cops kinda sorta started working a little bit. Then Anonymous got righteously pissed off, and proceeded to publish all sorts of information about the case. Two little s***s were convicted and are now doing time, no thanks to the locals. And thanks to Anonymous.

In Torrington, CT, a 13-year old girl was sexually assaulted by multiple males, some of them adults.. The cops again did bupkis, at least at first. Then a local blogger and Anonymous started making noise about the case, and they started to do their jobs, because they did not want to look like Steubenville. Four sexual predators are facing trial, thanks to local officials and Anonymous.

In Nova Scotia, a teenaged girl was gang-raped, blamed, and hanged herself after the cops did nothing. Again, Anonymous told the locals they would open a can of whoop-ass if they didn’t step up. Just like in Steubenville, the RCMP blew them off, and Anonymous opened the promised cans of whoop-ass. Surprise, surprise, the locals have re-opened the case, all the while complaining about vigilantes

News Flash: the reason vigilantes are acting is because, and only because, the duly constituted authorities have failed the citizens they are sworn to protect and serve. For years, the cops have been able to selectively protect women from violent crimes, at the discretion of the locals, because local culture pretty much decided how to deal with sexual assaults, domestic violence and suchlike. If the locality was a hotbed of rape culture, the victims were denied justice: if the area’s mores were based on the rule of law, the guilty were prosecuted.

Not anymore, says Anonymous (and a growing number of people around the world).No one should have to play dice with their safety, their lives, and their rights, depending on where they live and the attitudes of the local constabulary. If law enforcement won’t, you know, enforce the law, then we need the hacktivists to hold their feet to the fire until they do their jobs.

Here’s a reluctant toast, then, to the vigilantes at Anonymous. And here’s hoping that our public servants get the message, so that we no longer need Anonymous to protect us.

Steubenville Rape Cover-Up Grand Jury Selection Begins Today

Here is a link to story regarding Mike DeWine’s promised grand jury investigation into the alleged cover-up of gang-rapes committed there.

It is profoundly disturbing that so many people refused to help convict the scumbucket rapists. One wonders what the non-cooperative people are hiding?

Here’s hoping the truth comes out and the guilty are locked away after this is over. And here’s hoping that Steubenville women can live in a safer town after the local rape freaks are behind bars.

Mike DeWine – A Strong Argument for the Separation of Church and State

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has well and truly f***ed up: he wrote a letter to the Feds asking that employers not have to pay for birth control coverage if they have a religious objection to contraception. This “religious freedom” red herring is a load of hooey, as we have written before.

General DeWine has been a pretty fair AG thus far: he has done good work on prosecuting human trafficking, pill mills, sexual assault, fraud, and other important law enforcement tasks. But he is clearly out of his depth here.

The current “religious freedom” campaign is not about the freedom of we the people to worship (or not) as we see fit. Rather, it is about employers being able to:
Number A, weasel out of paying for employee health care by using specious religious claims, or
Letter 2, cram their own religion down the throats of their employees, or
Third option, both of the above.

General DeWine was a total right-wing tool in his previous government gigs, and we can see by this recent action that he has not changed one bit since. This is a clear example of why we have (and need to have) separation of Church and State; a concept so important to the Founders that it is set out near the beginning of the Constitution.

When greedy religious fanatics try to manipulate our system for their own benefit, we need to put a stop to it at the outset. It matters not if DeWine is a manipulator or being manipulated; what matters is that we take these attempts to insert religion into our government and squash them flat. And that soon.

Three Cheers for Alexandria Goddard, Crusader for Steubenville’s Rape Victim

Here’s to the real hero of the Steubenville rape case: while others picked up the ball and ran with it later, they could only do so because of her work.

Ms. Goddard started blogging about the case when no one was doing anything at all to help the victim. She and her family have endured death threats and still she has soldiered on.

Now that the Staties are in charge, it looks as if justice will be done, and blessings on General DeWine for all that he is doing. But without Alexandria Goddard, the rapists and their enablers would have all gotten off scot-free.

And for that, we give our thanks to her.
