No, this is not a joke. Or at least, it’s not funny. You can now “gift” any and every North Carolina official with sexual favors, and it’s legal.

North Carolina’s State Ethics Committee has just opened up a major problem for their state — they just made it legal for lobbying firms to purchase prostitutes to service politicians. The Committee’s determination that sex had no value and that sex between a lobbyist and politician was nothing to report or in any way questionable means that a major loophole has opened up for lobbying firms. Now lobbying firms can hire people with the explicit goal to seduce and fornicate with politicians in order to garner favor.

In other terms, lobbying firms can hire people who can offer sexual services for politicians, and they don’t even need to register.

Whores servicing whores. Both parties being pimped out. With human trafficking, child abuse, slavery and other concerns that go with prostitution finally getting acknowledged in this country, Carolinians are taking a firm stand for abuse. Abuse of women, abuse of children, and abuse of power. All wrapped up in one, well, f***ing law.

Christ on a condom.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

FreespeechSee that guy? He was arrested yesterday in Wisconsin, for holding up a sign saying: “Article 1, Section 4”. That is the little tiny part of their state Constitution that guarantees residents of that state the right to freedom of speech. The cops took umbrage to a citizen holding a sign that cited the law, so they cuffed him and threw him in jail.

Moral-Monday-July-arrests_Andrew-Dye-Winston-Salem-Journal-586x1024See that guy? He’s a octogenarian military veteran, arrested for peaceable assembly in North Carolina. The Repubs that own that state took umbrage at a senior citizen who walks with a cane reminding the people what a real hero looks like, so they cuffed him and threw him in jail, too.

“Republicans”, you see, have ticked off a lot of people lately. These ticked-off people have been engaging in peaceful protest, and the GOP is now ticked off right back. So, they have started arresting protesters.

All that has accomplished thus far is to bring out more protesters. And tourists who wanted to see the protesters. So, the Elephants decided to arrest even more people. Result? Even MORE protesters and gawkers.

So now, those a**holes Repubs in Cheese Country can arrest you for no reason if you are anywhere they don’t want you to be. Really. Click the link if you don’t believe it. Same deal in North Carolina. That’s upping the ante, all right: Even Bush the Dumber didn’t go so far as busting innocent people for breathing in the wrong place.

“Innocent? Bah, Humbug” says Scott Fitzgerald, one of the Grand Old Poohbahs of the occupying force Wisconsin GOP. “Innocence does not matter, we have a state to milk for all it is worth”. (OK, that is not a verbatim transcript of his remarks. But it does capture the essence. What he did say is damned nearly as bad, or even worse: “If you are in the vicinity of the illegal demonstrations that have been taking place over the noon hour in the rotunda, you will be considered part of the protests and are subject to being ticketed.”) Yes that’s right. Even if you aren’t involved in the protest, they’ll bust you for being nearby one.

Ask one innocent bystander:

Joe Meiller, a Madison Metro bus driver who brought his two sons to watch the singalong Friday from the balcony, was upset that he was asked to leave by Capitol police. “We didn’t sing or clap once,” Meiller said. “If I observe a bank robbery nearby, am I a participant because I was nearby?”

That’s your Republican America today, friends: people being arrested for not liking Republican policies, and saying so politely. That’s what your Republicans see as “freedom of speech”: you can say anything you want, so long as they agree with it. And shut up if you don’t like Repubs, or they’ll throw your a** in jail.

Even if you don’t say a word. Even if you’re nearly crippled. Even if you weren’t part of the protest at all. Jailed, by Imperial Republican decree. Freedom of speech? Not hardly.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

P.S. Other people who were punished for either protesting or being nearby a protest against “Republican” policies on May 4, 1970:

Yes, that’s blood. Yes, they are dead. Think it can’t happen again? Think again.

9163551_448x252In the town of Hope Mills, a racist dips*** decided to lie to the city about the nature of his float. Instead of “Watermelons For Sale” as stated in his application form, the float had signs saying “White History Month”.

The hateful, bigoted Donnie Spell not only lied to the parade organizers about the signage on his float, he refused to change them when they saw the signs before the parade started.

And when people saw the signs and objected to them, what did this pea-brained fool do? Why, like any cowardly jackass, he ran home and locked himself away, quivering in fear of the city, his friends, and the news media.

That, friends, is all you need to know about racists: they are lying, cheating, deceitful, cowardly little bits of scum.

And we need to call them out on it, at every opportunity.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky.

Members of The Cranky Nation will know that certain wingnut North Carolina legislators voted for an unconstitutional state law earlier this week. That law would have made NC law supreme over Federal law, all because their precious wittle feewings got aww hurted the other day.

House Speaker Thom Tillis , who is smarter than the average nutjob, put the bill out of its misery yesterday. He has not said why he killed it, but hey, he killed it.

What he did not do was repudiate the intent behind the bill, admonish his fellow lawmakers, or stand up for the rule of law. So we are left with a load of loons in the North Carolinian State House, and they will no doubt try this crap again someday. Unless they get schooled by their constituents beforehand, which doesn’t look all that likely.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Yes, it’s technically nullification at this point. But it’s a step in a very dangerous direction. A load of North Carolinian legislators gave signed onto a crazy, loony, unconstitutional bill that says, in essence, “neener, neener ” to the Supremacy and Edtablishment Clauses of the Constitution. And all because they can’t evangelize during opening prayers at public meetings.

Note this well: they are allowed to have a prayer. They are just not allowed to favor one flavor of religion during that prayer. You know, that freedom of religion Thinggummie. But evidently, being required to follow the law is equivalent to tyranny in the minds of these yahoos.

A unilateral declaration that state laws are supreme over federal laws is pretty much the start of secession, never mind the word games. These people are trying to create their own version of national law, just for their little state. Declaring one state’s law to have supremacy over that of the rest of the nation is tantamount to a Declaration of Independence.

Or, put another way, secession.
