Iceberg families like mine; like the Duggars.

My family of origin was similar to the Duggars–and similar to an iceberg. What we showed the public was the surface ten percent. When the doors were closed and no one was looking–our family members played our life out in the submerged dark waters that made up the remaining, unseen 90 percent. It’s where I spent my childhood and adolescence. 

There was hitting. There was slapping. There was emotional abuse. Their was spiritual abuse. There was degradation and name calling and screaming. And sexual abuse. 

We had to keep up appearances. We were a “religious family” and how we looked and how we acted to the outside world, were tantamount. 

I understand the Duggar family. I wish I didn’t. I know what it is like to be a victim of sexual abuse. I know what it is like to feel pressure to project an image of perfection and happiness–and to be dying on the inside. I know what it is like to feel like a nothing. Like the only reason you exist is to be an extension of your parents’ reputations. We existed to satisfy their egos and to ensure that the neighbors, the country-club members, the business colleagues and the church members–thought positively of our family. “Oh you guys have such a nice family!” “Wow, what great parents who have! Aren’t you lucky.” I heard it all the time. 

I know what it is like to never get help and to be forced to hide pain. I was hospitalized ten times–between the ages of five and 12–for acute bladder infections. Hospitalized. Put under anesthesia, because the experts didn’t understand why I had constant bladder infections. I grew up eating antibiotics crushed in peanut butter. I remember trying so hard to be good. To be better. If only I wasn’t so bad, the abuse would stop. 

I remember having to sacrifice my humanity–by remaining silent. By remaining an object. I remained a nothing–to ensure that the abusers were never caught. So I remained a silent, nothing object, because my abusers were my parents and I wanted their love. I was trauma bonded to them. They were all I knew. 

Our entire family should have been in therapy. We were all hurting. In silence. When my sister was hospitalized for an eating disorder, we were supposed to get family therapy. My father was angry with me one day. Because I was bad, my sister would not be getting family therapy. He blamed me. My father did everything to avoid therapy. My sister abused alcohol, I punched my hand threw a window and wanted to die and my brother tried to commit suicide. It was all hidden. Our pain was not only ignored, it was an aggravation because it threatened to reveal what was really happening. If my father could have–he would have sent us away to a family friend who built houses, too. Therapy was avoided at all costs, because it wasn’t truth and healing they wanted–but silence. That perfect shellacked exterior that served them so well. 

A sinister coincidence is that my father also had a police-officer friend who was a child molester. This “friend” took pictures of me and molested me. It’s been very hard to read about the child pornographers, molesters and abusers that surround the Duggar family. This is not coincidence. Trust me. These people have a way of finding each other. And when they’re in trouble, they seek out “likeminded” dysfunctionals–because they know they will also hide their sick secrets. 

As painful as it is to admit–I acted out sexually as a child. I remember one incident when I was 10. I had repressed that this had happened, and the memory surfaced when I was 30. I called the child that this happened with. He verified that indeed, it had. I fell on my knees when he said it happened when I was 13 and he was 8. I wrote him a five page letter, telling him that I believed his account and that what I had done was not his fault. I invited him into my own therapist’s office, to help him heal and to reiterate that he was not at fault. I have never gotten over this. I still have no memory of my actions at age 13, but I die every day just thinking that I could have done something like that. 

When the news about Josh Duggar doing this came out, I knew at once—that he had been abused. Most likely by his father. This was not sexual curiosity. This was a stunted teenager acting out abuse dynamics that had been done to him. He was recycling the abuser/abusee situation. He picked those who were weaker and less powerful than he–because that was what was done to him. 

Minimizing what Josh has done and clamoring for the show to return–is the ultimate injustice. He needs help. He has his own children now. Ignoring what he has done or making excuses–is a crime. 

The girls in the family who were sexually abused and forced to live with their abuser–most likely have PTSD now. And the Duggars are forcing them to be interviewed by Fox this Friday. These girls are robots, at this point. Just like I was. They’ve been programmed to protect the family, to be silent and to stuff down their own humanity until it shrinks into a sliver of nothing. They’ll smile. Just as I did. They’ll praise their parents, just as I did. They’ll claim that they forgive. Just as I did. Because that’s the program instilled in every neuron since preschool. Silence equals love and it’s the price of admission if you want mommy and daddy’s love. What choice do you have? You’re all ready broken in a million pieces–a nothing. The only thing you have is what little love (as sick as it is) you were given by people who regard you as an object. You’re a piece of furniture to them. However, you cling to it–the only life raft you’ve ever experienced during a lifelong tsunami event. 

I only hope the show is cancelled and that the talk of spin-offs is just a perverse rumor. Those girls are victims who have not even begun to face their pain. A spin-off, featuring sexual abuse victims who never got help–is nothing more than a sad crime scene with victims who only know how to perpetuate the lie. 

I cringe when right-wingers or Christians defend this family, their behavior and what happened. The minimizing, the rationalizations, the denial and the justifications–are all pedophile thinking. “He made a mistake.” “God forgives him” “Every family has problems and no family is perfect.” I’ve heard all of this. It was how the abusers in our family kept us quiet, submissive and sick. It was how they kept their secrets safe. I remember my father telling me that anytime I was mad at him to picture Jesus next to him–because Jesus loved everyone. I remember after our family saw the movie Parenthood with Steve Martin. My father remarked, as we walked to the car, “See. All families have problems.” 

I hate to see average people perpetuating these toxic, sick messages. They are gifts to abusers and pedophiles. People might not realize that they are carrying water for pedophiles, but they absolutely are, when they minimize the pain of abuse victims and the significance of what Josh did, and how his parents covered it up and ignored the pain of their own son and daughters. 

The Duggars are an iceberg family, just as my family of origin was an iceberg family. I escaped. I have a good life with my wonderful child and husband, but it took ten years of therapy to unravel the damage. There are many iceberg families out there. I’ve heard their stories in group therapy–but it is especially painful to hear the excuses and the minimizing from people who are only reinforcing the notion that this family is fine just the way it is. 

The Duggars are not victims of the media or the police who released the report. This family is lucky that we don’t know the full truth–and they damn well know it. They are not victims of anyone. They are a victim factory. These parents created victims that are now growing into adults that are unhealed. They are now having children who may become sexual abuse victims. The extent of the damage and pain that these parents have caused cannot be overestimated. Many generations will suffer because of them. 

In the end, I hope that the show is cancelled and that this forces at least some Duggar members to find their way to help–so that they can stop living on the surface of an iceberg crafted by abusers–and start living a whole, authentic life on their own terms. 

There is life beyond the prison of the surface ten percent.

Republican Policies would Kill Child Rape Victims.

As it was before, it is again today. In a place where all abortions are forbidden, a 10-year-old girl is being forced to bear her rapist’s child. The same laws that “Republicans” support may very well kill this child:

Human rights organizations are calling on Paraguayan officials to allow a 10-year-old rape victim to end her pregnancy, arguing that the country’s harsh abortion ban is comparable to torture.

Authorities say that the girl, whose name is being withheld, became pregnant after she was sexually assaulted by her stepfather. Her pregnancy was not discovered until she was about 20 weeks along and started complaining of a stomachache. Now, she isn’t being permitted to have an abortion

Data collected by the World Healthm Organization confirms that girls in Latin America who give birth before they turn 16 years old are four times more likely to die during childbirth than young women in their twenties. In Paraguay specifically, 28 minors died last year due to complications stemming from giving birth.

This is what the GOP wants for America, Gentle Reader: a Dominionist theocracy in which all abortions are forbidden, no matter what. A country that consigns children to death for being victims of a horrible crime: indeed, the children will suffer more harsh punishment than the rapist criminals who forcibly impregnated them.

Here’s putting it plain: while rapists are rarely prosecuted and even more rarely punished, Teapublicans would pronounce an effective death sentence upon child rape victims. Does that disturb you? It damned well should.

This is, unfortunately, not an exaggeration. Repubs want to force women to carry fetuses to full term, even if it kills them. Even if the babies are already dead. Teapublicans go so far as to imprison women who have miscarriages. They think that God wants women to be raped so they can be “gifted” with babies from rapists.

Repubs even want rapists to have visitation rights for children born of their criminal actions. Over and over again, the GOP puts the rights of rapists over the rights of their victims. Even if the victim is a child.

Even it kills the child, the “Republicans” stand up for the rights of the rapist. And against the rights of the female rape victims.

Why, exactly, do so many people support this inhuman lunatic hatred with their votes?

Rape Freak Robertson meets Teavangelical Rape Freaks.

First of all, remember that Phil Robertson is himself a rapist, of the Statutory variety. He managed to avoid prison by marrying the 15-year-old girl he’d impregnated (possibly when she was only 14), but ask any father of a young teen girl how he’d feel about an adult male molesting her, and most parents would reach for their shotgun. And not to make him marry their child, either.

He also urges other men to seduce underage girls, thus making them rapists like him. Really? No, seriously, really? Could a man be lower than a molester of young women?

Yep, Phil can get lower than that. Low like world-champion-at-moral-Limbo low. He shared one of his personal rape fantasies at a prayer breakfast, with children in attendance:

I’ll make a bet with you. Two guys break into an atheist’s home. He has a little atheist wife and two little atheist daughters. Two guys break into his home and tie him up in a chair and gag him.

Then they take his two daughters in front of him and rape both of them and then shoot them, and they take his wife and then decapitate her head off in front of him, and then they can look at him and say, ‘Isn’t it great that I don’t have to worry about being judged? Isn’t it great that there’s nothing wrong with this? There’s no right or wrong, now, is it dude?

(Note: Phil said more, but this blogger will not reprint that vile filth. Even Jeffrey Dahmer wouldn’t have thought of some of Phil’s sick criminal sex fantasies.)

Of course, to Phil, rape is not wrong. He committed that crime himself and got rewarded instead of punished. He is not an Atheist, but he clearly doesn’t know right from wrong, even with his Teavangelical “faith”. Or maybe he loves him some rape because of said Teavangelical “faith”.

Gentle Reader, this is sick enough already; but it gets even worse. The audience of Vero Beach “Christians” did not object to Phil shouting his Rape Porn at their children: indeed, from the audio, it sounds like they were in agreement with him, showing their approval for said Rape Porn. Teavangelical parents liked having Duck Daddy telling their own children all about rape, decapitation, genital mutilation, and other truly revolting crimes.

That says a LOT about contemporary American “Republican” “Christians”. And what it says is not good, not good at all. Fathers, keep those shotguns handy. Whether the potential statutory rapist is an avowed Atheist, Christian or anything else. Rape freaks are rape freaks.

When Ignorance and Authoritarianism Combine:Today’s GOP

Scary stuff, Gentle Reader, scary stuff. The party that controls most of our country prides itself on being a load of scientifically illiterate, math-challenged yahoos who want to monitor each and every intimate detail of your life.

If that doesn’t scare you, you aren’t paying attention. We heard a prominent member of the Senate Repubs call for a miltary coup, forcing the government at gunpoint to starve the poor and feed the MIC.

We have a plethora of elected and appointed Teapublicans who loudly proclaim their willful ignorance on matters such as climate, rape, and even basic arithmetic, ferchrissakes.

So the same people who want to shoot anyone who disagrees with them are also those who take pride in their lack of knowledge about pretty much anything except for about 10% of the Bible. They are running things. And they are running things because they got the most votes.

Which means that stupid voters are in the majority. That is even scarier.

The modern-day versions of the He-Man Woman-Haters Club reared their butt-ugly heads in response to yesterday’s post about the type of pro-rape a**holes that infest the anti-woman fringe. The needle-d***ed little boys who defended their rape-endorsing comrade said lots of tough-sounding things, in their own little safe zones such as “Feminism is a Hate Movement”:

One might at least expect someone who is so angry about a blog post to call the blogger out in the comments section of the offending blog. Nope. Men’s Rights A**hole wants to legalize Rape. Seriously.

Yet another mamma-threw-away-the-child-and-raised-the-afterbirth chucklef*** demonstrates why the “Men’s Rights Activists” are all a bunch of criminally insane loserboys. One Roosh Vörek wants to make rape legal. Don’t believe it? Here are his very own “thoughts”:

I thought about this problem and am sure I have the solution: make rape legal if done on private property. I propose that we make the violent taking of a woman not punishable by law when done off public grounds.

The exception for public rape is aimed at those seedy and deranged men who randomly select their rape victims on alleys and jogging trails, but not as a mechanism to prevent those rapes, since the verdict is still out if punishment stops a committed criminal mind, but to have a way to keep them off the streets. For all other rapes, however, especially if done in a dwelling or on private property, any and all rape that happens should be completely legal.

If rape becomes legal under my proposal, a girl will protect her body in the same manner that she protects her purse and smartphone. If rape becomes legal, a girl will not enter an impaired state of mind where she can’t resist being dragged off to a bedroom with a man who she is unsure of—she’ll scream, yell, or kick at his attempt while bystanders are still around. If rape becomes legal, she will never be unchaperoned with a man she doesn’t want to sleep with. After several months of advertising this law throughout the land, rape would be virtually eliminated on the first day it is applied.

ISIS and “Christian” Extremists: Both of them are terrorist organizations.

Both groups want to murder millions of infidels so as to bring about the end of the world. Both groups cherry-pick their respective Scriptures to justify the evil acts they perpetrate upon others. Both are run by malevolent geniuses who are followed by  hateful, gullible, violent f***wits with room-temperature IQs. And both have useful idiots in the media who try to paint them as something other than what they are.

Let’s start with ISIS, (and let’s call them “Daesh”, because it is accurate, and because they hate being called by that name).

This writer certainly has no love for Daesh. They are lunatic mass-murderers, among other disgusting characteristics. We cannot, however, pretend that they are any different than the Teavangelicals. We have at least as big a problem with the supposed “followers” of Rebbe Yeshua bar Joseph as we do with those who pervert the teachings of Mohammed (peace be on him).

Any Christian who wants to pretend otherwise should remember this little quote from their professed Lord and Savior in Matthew 7:

All terrorists are evil. All of them, regardless of motivation or religion. Look at them with clear eyes, and you’ll see it.

Oregon Football Players stand up for Rape Victims, and get punished. Dafuq?

Really? No, seriously, really? These guys should be praised, not shat upon. No wonder we have such a rape problem on college campuses (yes, we do have such a problem. Stop arguing, and STFU about those f***wits at Rolling Stone. One s***ty story in a s***ty magazine does not mean there isn’t a rape problem).

For those who care even less about football than this writer, here is the story: FSU’s rapist QB and his rape-enabling school got their nuts kicked in during the most recent Rose Bowl game. After that nice bit of Karma-On-The-Gridiron, some of the Ducks told off Florida’s raping QB. Here’s a quote from Deadspin:

Oregon mollywhopped Florida State by 39 to advance to the college football championship game, and while accepting the Rose Bowl trophy they decided to rub it in a little. Take one part rape allegations and one part ubiquitous chant, and you have this Vine of Oregon players taunting Jameis Winston and FSU with a “no means no” tomahawk chop chant. Oof.

Update: Here’s a statement from Oregon coach Mark Helfrich: “We are aware of the inappropriate behavior in the postgame. This is not what our programs stand for, and the student-athletes will be disciplined internally.”

Got that? A bunch of athletes say “rape is a bad thing”, and their school punishes them. Other athletes rape the s*** out of women and their schools ignore it at best, and tacitly reward them at worst. Jameis Winston is but one example of many a**hole jocks who feel a sense of entitlement to commit acts of sexual violence.

And they feel that entitlement because of messages like this one from Oregon. “Don’t send out anti-rape messages, it’s not sportsmanlike” is what Oregon’s administration is saying. And they are “disciplining” the football players who dare to defy the pro-rape culture that afflicts our nation. What a bunch of stupid-f***s.

Good on the Ducks who took that stand. No matter what their school thinks.

Repubs Impose the Nation’s First “Uterus Tax”. Most Eligible Michigan Voters are Responsible.

Yes, you read that correctly. In Michigan, women who are raped may not have an abortion if their rapist impregnates them. UNLESS they purchased what is being called “rape insurance” ahead of time. Result: women need to plan for being raped, and pay out of pocket in case they are someday raped. Your humble correspondent feels that “rape Insurance” is the wrong term. Really, it’s a tax on people who can become pregnant.

It is a tax on fertile women, levied upon their functioning uteri. A “Uterus Tax”.This is a 100% “republican” idea, pushed only by repubs, voted for only by repubs. Repubs have successfully imposed it upon women in Michigan, and plan to spread it across the nation.

America, you just voted to give the party behind such obscene ideas even more power than they already had. You voted for it, and you are getting what you deserve. Almost all eligible voters are to blame for such travesties as these.

Perhaps you didn’t vote? By not voting against the GOPee, you helped Repubs to win.

Perhaps you voted third-party? See above.

Perhaps you voted “Republican”? You stupid f***, you truly do DESERVE this. Hope it hurts, motherf***er.

The only people who are blameless are those who voted for the candidate with the best mathematical chance to beat a Teapubbie. Every other eligible voter within the locale involved in a Repub outrage bears some measure of responsibility for the outrage in question.

This is just the first example of what America asked for during this week’s election. Look forward to years more of such revolting results. And as you are subjected to these manifold obscenities over time, remember: America voted for this. America asked for this. America demanded this. AMERICA’S VOTERS MADE THIS HAPPEN. As the Politicos like to say, “elections have conesquences”.

Maybe we’ll learn our lesson. Maybe after we get f***ed so brutally, so often, so painfully, the country will learn to ignore the propaganda, respect the facts, and get out to vote in our best interests for a damned change. Maybe.

But for the foreseeable future, we will all pay, as a nation, for the sins of the majority of actual voters.

Rape flourishes in a land that will not punish rapists.

America, as has been previously noted, really doesn’t mind rape all that much; seeing as how rapists often get light sentences, or escape punishment entirely. Here is yet another example of the “America secretly loves them some rape” phenomenon: a man incapacitates a woman so as to rape her, announces that he will rape her, invites people to watch him rape her, rapes her, videotapes the rape, and for some reason is not charged with rape. Christ on a keg, really?

MOORHEAD – A Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestler is accused of getting another student drunk in his dorm room Labor Day evening, and raping her while videotaping it and after inviting other students on his floor to come watch.

Angel Mario Vega, 23, of Moorhead was charged Wednesday in Clay County District Court with one count of felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a helpless victim, and with one count of providing alcohol to someone under 21, a misdemeanor.

A search warrant executed on Vega’s dorm room also turned up his cellphone, on which a detective found a photo of the half-unclothed woman on the lounge couch, court documents state. The video shows Vega forcing the woman to have sex, according to court documents.

Got that? We have witnesses. Physical evidence. Video evidence. Slam dunk, rape case proven. BUT THE RAPIST WAS NOT CHARGED WITH RAPE. No, a lesser charge was levied instead. You want to know why rapists keep raping? Because they know they will get away with it.

America, our “justice” system is great in theory. We need to punish these preeves, and that severely.

By an amazing lack of coincidence, one of every five American women will be raped in the course of their lives. Because the rapists know they can abuse women and be obliged to pay little or nothing for the offense.
