This writer checks his 401(K) balance weekly, and noticed a drop in value, due to yesterday’s stock market tumble. Said tumble being entirely (and only) due to Boehner’s decision to shut down the government and stop paying America’s bills. So that carrot-faced son of a bitch has stolen several hundred dollars of my money. And I have five bucks here saying I’ll lose lots more from my retirement fund before this is over.

Many people have lost far more, of course –  grieving military families are being shafted after  heroic soldiers gave their lives for this country; children are losing Head Start and their parents are losing their jobs; government workers and the businesses that depend on them are losing their entire paychecks; indeed, this writer could be taking a much bigger hit. And I am grateful that I’m not, believe you me.

Gentle Reader, take some time today and over the next few weeks to look at your financial picture. Be aware of just how many of us are being hurt by the intransigence of the Teapublicans who run Congress. And remember that THEY are not being hurt by this extra-constitutional behavior –  indeed, they are getting their paychecks, bennies, and even their own luxury gym and spa with no interruption. So of course they’ll shut down the government – so long as they still get theirs, they don’t give a s*** about us.

The only way to hurt them back is run them out of office. The next opportunity to do so in just over a year away. Let’s get to work and send the lot of them packing in 2014. The money (and perhaps the country)  you save may be your own.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

“The American people don’t want this bill” is a lie of truly epic dimensions, because the American people have voted FOR Obamacare, time and time again.

First, they elected Obama in 2008, and he ran on a platform that actually included even MORE health care than Obamacare delivered. That’s a vote for Obamacare.

Then they re-elected Obama in 2012, when he ran against Romney/Ryan, whose platform included ditching Obamacare. That’s a vote for Obamacare.

They also cast more votes for House Democrats in 2012 than they did for House “Republicans” (the Repubs kept the House via election rigging, gerrymandering, etc.) That’s another vote for Obamacare.

Every time Obamacare’s individual  provisions are mentioned in polls, they get huge public support. It’s just the word “Obamacare” that people view through suspicious eyes (and small wonder, given the smear campaign that Repubs have waged against  it over the years).

And that, Gentle Reader, is why the lie “The American people don’t want this bill” is the biggest Obamacare of them all. Yes, there are some people who DON’T want Obamacare, but they are in the minority.

The majority of the American People voted for Obamacare, loudly and repeatedly. It’s high time the “Republicans” respected the clearly-expressed will of the people, and get the hell out of the way if they don’t like it. Congress is supposed to work for US, not the other way around.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

The “Republican”-controlled House of “Representatives” acts as though they speak for the “American People”, even though they clearly do not. They got pummeled in the last election; are regarded horribly in any poll you’d care to cite; are loathed by everyone from the Loony Left to the Raging Right; are hated by Main Street and Wall Street alike; and still they claim to speak for us. They might  be delusional or cynical, but it is patently obvious to everyone but the Gang of 218 that they speak for no one but themselves.

Think about it –  they want to shut down the government, even though the majority of Americans oppose it. They want to keep siphoning money away from the poor to give to the rich, even though the majority of Americans oppose it. And they are claiming that the American People hate Obamacare, when in fact the American People are not of one mind on the topic.

This misrepresentation on the part of the House is why this writer puts “Representatives” in quotations whenever they are called out: they cannot represent us if they misrepresent us. And that, Gentle Reader, is why the “Republican”-controlled House of “Representatives” is truly, massively, totally full of s***.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

The American College of Gynecologists has finally had enough of lying, grandstanding, glory-hound yahoo politicos and their bulls*** anti-abortion laws. In fact, they are calling these “representatives” out, and (rhetorically) whacking them with very large sticks.

It makes sense that people who actually do something would be considered the experts at that thing, yes? So doctors who are trained in a medical specialty and work at it every day would be the authoritative sources, nicht wahr? And those OB/GYNs should be listened to, n’cest pas?

So let’s listen to them (bold text courtesy of the Crankster):

“While we can agree to disagree about abortion on ideological grounds, we must draw a hard line against insidious legislation that threatens women’s health like Texas HB2 (House Bill 2) and SB1 (Senate Bill 1). That’s why we’re speaking to the false and misleading underlying assumptions of this and other legislation like it: These bills are as much about interfering with the practice of medicine and the relationship a patient has with her physician as they are about restricting women’s access to abortion. The fact is that these bills will not help protect the health of any woman in Texas. Instead, these bills will harm women’s health in very clear ways.
We’re setting the record straight, loudly and unequivocally, with these simple messages to all politicians:

Get Out of Our Exam Rooms

“Facts are very important, especially when discussing the health of women and the American public. And a lot of “facts” are being asserted in this debate. Truth be told, the scientific underpinnings of this legislation are unsound. First, there’s the 20-week ban, which is based on the argument that a fetus can feel pain. Recent and rigorous scientific reviews have concluded that there is no evidence of fetal perception of pain until 29 weeks at the earliest2 (third trimester is 28–40 weeks).”

Yes, these doctors are opening up a big ol’ can o’ Whoop-Ass on the “Republicans” in Texas and elsewhere who are prying into our private lives. And they are calling out these reprehensible scumballs for lying, invading our privacy, and endangering the lives of women and children with their meddling ways.

And the crazy part is, these “representatives” of ours are all too often proponents of “small government” and decriers of “Big Brother government”. People, if there is any more egregious example of Big Brother than a politician trying to stick their fingers into women’s private parts, this writer hasn’t heard of it.

Kudos to ACOG for telling these intrusive, corrupt, lying, sleazebucket politiciians to go pound sand.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky.

Why re-write a good article? Click this link and read the Vanity Fair piece, which pretty much guarantees Eddie a Crown O’ Polished Turds.

Runner Up: the Texas State Senate, who tried to forge documents to fake a win on a woman-hating anti-abortion bill.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Remember the 90’s? That was when a Dem got elected President, and the Repubs spent years manufacturing “scandals” so as to stop him from getting his agenda accomplished. Bulls*** allegation after bulls*** allegation, and finally one stuck to the wall: a stain on a gullible young lady’s dress, put there by our horndog Prexy Bubba. Finally, after years of effort, the “Republicans” had a scandal with which to distract the public and derail the administration’s efforts and policies. Oh, and to use to take the White House in 2000. Dirty politics, but effective. Even today, “Lewinsky” is a punch line.

Now we have another Democrat at 1600, and the Repubs have been working from the same playbook for his entire term. BS “scandal” after BS “scandal” has been thrown at Obama, and none has stuck. Not until Ron Paul supporter Edward Snowden decided to derail the administration. And he (or whoever he really works for) has upped the game considerably. Not just a stain or an “is” leaked at random moments: no, these releases of national security information are being timed to lead the media and the more gullible members of the public around by the nose:
* The initial “revelation” happened just after another attempted scandal was fizzling out,
* The “revelation” about spying on China came out right before Obama met with China’s leader,
*The “revelation” about spying on Russia came out right before Obama met with Russia’s leader, and then
*Right on cue, the son of the man Snowden supported in 2012 denounced Obama over the NSA “scandal”.

A well-coordinated and effective but of dirty politics, you’ll agree. And it will continue, because it seems to be working. Note that this writer is neither excusing Clinton’s pre-adolescent behavior with Ms. Lewinsky, nor is he standing up for the appalling breaches of privacy that the Bushies and their Patriot Act handed down to the present regime.

But, Gentle Reader, he IS saying that the “revelations” and “scandals” are part of a pattern of behavior that we have seen from the “Republican” party for many years now. Far too many of We The People are forgetting this, and allowing ourselves to be jerked around on the strings of various puppeteers, who are not doing this for the good of the country: no, they are doing this to stop Obama from getting anything done, so the Elephants can kick the Donkeys out of power once again. And it’s working, because far too many of us aren’t paying attention.

And if this disgraceful campaign of character assassination succeeds, you’ll have this latter-day Lewinsky to thank (or blame). Yes, the new and improved edition of a young naïf who hit their knees in order to “service” someone in a position of power. A punchline-in-waiting is he, aided and abetted by our national failure to pay attention when we are being manipulated.

The only question left is what sort of “stain” will be left on Mr. Snowden, and whether he can ever wash it away.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

There’s a first time for everything – two LSOS’s in a single week, but this warrants an award of its own: less than half of the Senate showed up for a briefing on the big bad surveillance scandal that they have been screeching about.

You see, the briefing, which the Senate has been loudly demanding, was held on Thursday afternoon, and we certainly can’t expect our Senators to work an entire 3-day week, now can we? Nope, most of them were at the airport or already on planes (that somehow escaped the budget cuts and cutbacks of Sequestration). So they STILL don’t know about the surveillance scandal that seemed to be so important a couple of days ago:

Only 47 of 100 senators attended the 2:30 briefing, leaving dozens of chairs in the secure meeting room empty as Clapper, Alexander and other senior officials told lawmakers about classified programs to monitor millions of telephone calls and broad swaths of Internet activity. The room on the lower level of the Capitol Visitor Center is large enough to fit the entire Senate membership, according to a Senate aide.

It’s one of two things: either the Senators who blew off the briefing don’t really give a monkey’s about the “scandal”, or they already knew about it. Either way, those who skipped the meeting are Lying Sacks of S***. It’ll take a truckload of Crowns O’ Polished Turds to decorate the domes of all these poltroons, but they have earned them.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Just one example of many: Sean Hannity during the Bush administration excoriating the Dems for opposing the creation of an Orwellian surveillance state, and the same boyo during the Obama administration excoriating the Dems for creating the aforementioned surveillance state. A nice little video of this flat-headed flannelmouth ranting on both sides of the issue. And did you see ABC or CBS “news” calling him out for his Janus impression? Neither did anyone else, because they never did.

In addition to out-and-out partisan hacks like Hannity, we have the merely lazy hacks who do nothing but pass along the lies of our “representatives”. No fact-checking, nonono, none of that old0fashioned stuff.

This is the only article your humble correspondent could locate that actually dared to ask questions( like, say, “why do Teapublicans oppose criminal background checks for gun buyers as ‘intrusive’ but support the Patriot Act and other domestic surveillance initiatives?”) and didn’t simply repeat the B.S. that got handed down by the two-faced crooks and liars in DC. An excerpt;

“This bill is a clear overreach that will predominantly punish and harass our neighbors, friends, and family,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who voted against proceeding to debate the issue of gun control.

But on Tuesday, the Kentucky Republican defended the controversial NSA surveillance programs that sweep up data on phone calls and Internet activities, essentially making the case that the efforts are justified and legal.

Seen that on Fox, CNN, or another such “news” outlet? Yeah, we haven’t either. Such is life in the infotainment age. And let’s not forget the hysterical, hype-ridden “coverage” at the outset of this “scandal” that was ever-so-quietly “corrected” as the days went on. It’s getting to the point where we can trust our “news” media even less than we do Congress.

And if you’re less trustworthy than those partisan motherf***ers, you can’t be trusted at all.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

Recently we discovered that the House of “Representatives” will be giving itself about 2/3 of the year off. So they clearly don’t plan on doing anything for their six-figure salaries.

This morning, Mr. Blunt and Cranky heard a story on the news about how Dizzy City has gotten into the habit of forcing other agencies to do nothing. So the trend is being spread across the government, like mold through bread.

Mind you, the government doing nothing might not be so bad if we weren’t still paying full price. Most of us in the real world don’t get paid if we don’t work. But not “our” government, who take our money and provide little or nothing in return.

There’s a word for such people, who take our money under false pretenses and then fail to deliver as promised.

That word is “thieves”.

Mr. B & C

First the good news: various and sundry politicos are finally thinking about creating a coherent national policy around immigration. Yay.

Now for the bad news: the reason progress is occurring because the “Republicans” got their crotches kicked in during the last election, and they want to curry favor with the Latino vote.

If it were being done to enhance our national security; boost our economy; live up to the founding principles of our republic; or for some other worthy purpose, it would reflect well on Congress. But, of course, there is no concern about the country; only the desire to keep their cushy jobs and the bribes that come with them.

America’s priorities used to be noble things, based on principles and aspirations. Really. Read our founding documents. Now it seems the only priorities for our “representatives” are based on how deeply their snouts can be inserted into the hog trough of power, bribery, and fame.
