Because it’s pretty effing obvious that they’ve never read his works. He never promoted unregulated free markets: in fact, he advocated for individuals and governments to control capitalism, and to take into account the needs of people, no matter which economic and social strata they may occupy. Our “Republican” “leaders” and their corporate paymasters are willfully ignorant of these facts, damn their manifold “souls”.

A few sample Adam Smith quotes for all y’all who haven’t read him:

“It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more than in that proportion.”

Yeah, but don’t tell that to the BoehnerBots.

“No society can surely be flourishing and happy of which by far the greater part of the numbers are poor and miserable.”

Again, the Baggers and their puppeteers have evidently missed this little bon mot.

“Our merchants and masters complain much of the bad effects of high wages in raising the price and lessening the sale of goods. They say nothing concerning the bad effects of high profits. They are silent with regard to the pernicious effects of their own gains. They complain only of those of other people.”

Pretty obvious reference to the 1-percenters of his day and ours, innit?

:“The great source of both the misery and disorders of human life, seems to arise from over-rating the difference between one permanent situation and another. Avarice over-rates the difference between poverty and riches: ambition, that between a private and a public station: vain-glory, that between obscurity and extensive reputation. The person under the influence of any of those extravagant passions, is not only miserable in his actual situation, but is often disposed to disturb the peace of society, in order to arrive at that which he so foolishly admires.”

Sounds a lot like Repubs and Teabagggers, does it not?

More of his quotes can be found here: https://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/14424.Adam_Smith But if you can, you really ought to read all of his Wealth of Nations writings, because the man was the kind of capitalist that has nearly gone extinct in these decadent modern times.

This writer hopes that whatever eventual tribunal metes out justice to these Teabagging scumbuckets remembers one more Adam Smith quote:

“Mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent.”

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

P.S.: What prompted this rant? Why, ’twas this article on a skanky lobbyist who played both sides of the street during the recent ACA imbroglio. Said scuzzbucket is the recipient of ALEC’s “Adam Smith Free Enterprise Award”. ALEC is, of course, the über-teabagger lobbying group that wants to ban all regulations, so the very notion of those f***wits naming an award after Adam Smith is so far beyond ironic as to be beyond belief.

If you see Mr. Blunt and Cranky on stage playing some old chestnut like “Freebird”, you can tell why he’s playing it by who’s paying him (some bar owner, corporate type or FOTB). Once you know who is laying out the green and folding, you can understand why the band is playing a song we’ve grown heartily sick of over the decades. But hey, he who has the gold makes the rules: so in order to get the gold, the players follow the rules. The dude with the bucks wants to hear Skynyrd, so he gets Skynyrd.

If you encounter this writer in a corporate context, you might wonder why he puts on a tie, when his aversion to such ornamental ligatures is well-established. So you ask who is putting up the cash. Once you know who is writing the checks, the wearing of a suit and tie makes sense. Because he who has the gold makes the rules: so in order to get the gold, the suits follow the rules. The man with the cash wants us to wear ties, so we wear ‘em.

Now let us apply the same analytical (and yes, cynical) process to Edward Snowden. He took a pay cut in order to be able to steal government secrets and spread them around the globe, so he wasn’t likely saving a ton of bucks. He then flew on some not-too-cheap flights from Hawaii to Hong Kong, and then to Russia, where he’s been holed up for weeks in a pretty darned expensive and heavily secured hotel. He’s also been accompanied and been given legal advice on occasion by Wikileaks at least since he fled the USA (and for all we know, before that). He’s divulged secrets and rattled cages, and acted in a sometimes inexplicable manner. And we wonder: “Why?”

The answer, my friend, can be found when we identify Snowden’s paymaster. Putin sure as hell ain’t comping Edward’s room, meals and drinks for nothing. So either he is getting “paid” with Snowden’s stolen information, or somebody else is paying the bills for the airport hotel and whatever other costs he may be incurring.
Wikileaks is also not giving legal advice away for free. So either they are getting “paid” with Snowden’s stolen information, or somebody else is paying the bills for the legal beagles.

When we know who is bankrolling the man, we’ll understand why he is doing such things. Whoever has the gold makes the rules, and if Ed wants the gold, he’s following their rules. Somebody with money wants to stick it to the USA, and so Eddie is sticking it to us.

So, who’s the “somebody”, and what do they want for their money? Snowden sure as Hell isn’t telling: he wants to get paid, like everybody else. So who among you, out there in the Cranky Nation, can track down man with the cash?

Mr. Blunt and Cranky

P.S. This writer was able to find any number of crowd-funded “legal defense” funds set up for the man: but no way to actually tie those funds to his current financial situation. Send in some documentation, and if it’s verifiable we will publish it here.

Mr. Blunt and Cranky narrowly avoided projectile vomiting yesterday, as CNN lavished care and sympathy on a pair of disgusting sexual predators after they were found guilty.

They gave little time to, and indeed failed to show even a moiety of concern about, the victim of the Rape Crew’s most recent string of subhuman crimes. Instead, rape cheerleader Candy Crowley was all weepy-eyed at the plight of the poor, poor, pitiful registered sex offenders and how their “futures” have been destroyed.

Hey, Candy-the-rape-afficianado, they chose to rape, torture, kidnap and abuse that poor girl: they destroyed her dreams, you worthless bit of sex-crime-fangirl dung.

Fortunately, scum-sucking perverts like Candy “more-evil-than-Alistair” Crowley are not in charge of rendering justice: responsible adults like Judge Lipps and Ohio Attorney General DeWine are. And they have both made one thing clear:

Unlike those child-rape-supporters at CNN, the State of Ohio’s sympathies lie only with the victims of crime. And there’s gonna be a lot of soiled tightie-whities in Steubenville for a while, because the AG, the Staties, and the computer-crime-lab folks are just getting warmed up.

Meanwhile, boycott those preeves at CNN and let them know why.

Mr. B & C

The United States of America is a secular nation, founded by (mostly) Christian men. They knew the dangers of a Theocracy, and so ruled one out in the first part of the First Amendment to our Constitution. It’s known as the Establishment Clause, and it goes like this:
“Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”.

Pretty unambiguous, you’d say, and you’d be correct. But lots of corrupt, hateful, greedy, power-mad motherf***ers want to ignore that very clear part of our law and make their own personal church the official church of America. And God help you if you don’t go along, because the Churchies certainly won’t.

People, the law means what it says. If you don’t like the Constitution, feel free to try and amend it. But until then, just obey the friggin’ law. Please?

Mr. B & C

Yes, you read that right. Texas “representative” Steve Stockman has invited Ted Nugent to be his guest at the State Of The Union address, calling Teddy Poopy Panties a “patriot”.

Said “patriot” having called for the President’s killing on more than one occasion, one can only assume that Mr. Stockman also finds it “patriotic” to kill President Obama.

This writer hopes the Secret Service can climb out of the beds of whores, and sober up long enough to keep an eye on these two traitors.

Mr. B. & C

This is a news story about a stupid, bigoted, ignorant, traitorous right-wing scumball who wants the President dead. His pickup truck has a spray-painted sign on the side that reads: “Lee Harvey Oswald where are you when we need U”.

Pretty clear: he is advocating the murder of a sitting President. Of course, when asked about it, “Chuck” tried to weasel out, but like most of his ilk was not convincing.

This kind of un-American crap has got to stop. This writer sincerely hopes that the horse’s ass who wrote that sign gets enough negative feedback that he learns to be a true patriot who supports our Constitutional government and lives by its laws.

Because right now, he is an advocate of terrorism. And if we learned nothing else from Timothy McVeigh and Osama Bin Laden, we should at least have learned to have a zero-tolerance policy towards those who want to destroy our way of life, and the government that makes it possible.
